Back in 1977, The Eagles’ seminal hit Hotel California chillingly told listeners that it was the kind of place that they could “check in anytime they like, but could never leave.”
Well, fast forward 25 years, and the Fox network is banking on the fact that a new Reality TV series this fall called Divorce Hotel will be the kind of place where couples check in, and then swiftly check out — of their marriage — with no problem whatsoever.
Divorce Hotel will follow two estranged spouses as they check into a luxury hotel (in separate rooms, of course), communicate with their respective family lawyers and other divorce professionals, bear their souls in what promises to be both a compelling and harrowing expression of anguish, and then check out the following day with their divorce signed, sealed and delivered
The concept of Divorce Hotel is based on a Dutch business hotel that offers this service. There’s no news yet on whether that trend will cross the Atlantic, but chances are that more than a few entrepreneurs will be watching the new Fox show with interest.
And with divorce rates hovering around 50% or higher in many areas, a loyalty program with frequent stay points may not be entirely out of the question.
Can anyone say “Holiday Out“?
