Has singer Mariah Carey finally found her Dreamlover? Will he Always Be Her Baby?
Cheap song-title references aside, Latina.com and other media have reported that the superstar diva married Wild ‘N Out star Nick Cannon, in a small, “very impulsive” wedding on April 30 — the same day that Access Hollywood revealed that the couple was engaged.
According to the New York Post, a source close to Carey, 38, said that the wedding ceremony took place at her new Eleuthera home in the Bahamas. She and Cannon didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement.
E! Online confirmed the marriage with one of the groom’s relatives. “Yes, we know. He called and told us all about it,” Linda Cannon was quoted as saying. “We are happy for him. If that is what he wants, then we are happy for him.” She added, “I’m not going to give you any details, but we are happy for him.”
Jewelry company Jacob & Co. told E! that Cannon paid no less than $2.5 million for the 17-carat engagement ring.
It’s Carey’s second marriage; her first was to music executive Tommy Mottola, under whose guidance she became a big star in the ’90s. They married in 1993 and divorced in 1998. Cannon, 27, was engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks last year, but they called it off after less than five months. He has also dated Christina Milian.
Cannon began his career performing at various Hollywood comedy clubs in his teens. He got his break in the Nickelodeon sketch-comedy show All That; his movie credits include Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Men in Black II, and Day of the Dead. He is also a rapper.
So will Nick Cannon prove to be Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love? It all seems to have happened so fast — but maybe Carey will remember her own lesson, Love Takes Time. For some good advice on how to make your marriage work, click here.
