Semi-retired wrestler and current reality-TV star Hulk Hogan may know all the moves in the ring, but his wife just knocked him flat in the marriage arena. Linda Marie Bollea, 48, filed divorce papers with Florida’s Pinellas County Court on November 20 — and Hogan didn’t even find out until three days later.
Hogan, whose real name is Terry Gene Bollea, was supposedly shocked when a St. Petersburg Times reporter phoned him on his cell for comment on November 23. After the reporter told him the news, Hogan said, “Thank you for the great information,” and then hung up. He called the newspaper back five minutes later.
“You caught me off guard,” the paper quoted Hogan as saying. “My wife has been in California for about three weeks. Holy smokes. Wow, you just knocked the bottom out of me. I just pulled over to the side of the road for five minutes to find out what was going [on] here.”
The wrestler would not provide more details on the breakup, however, calling his marital issues his own “private business.” Linda Marie Bollea’s divorce papers don’t cite a reason for the split either, according to Fox News station WTVT.
Hogan, 54, has been starring with his wife and their two children in the VH1 reality series Hogan Knows Best. Recent episodes have dealt with the couple’s marital problems and shown them at marriage-counseling sessions. Although the series raised the possibility of separation, the couple later reconciled on the show.
Terry and Linda Bollea married in 1983, around the peak of Hulk Hogan’s WWF fame. Last year, the family moved to a $12 million Miami Beach estate in order to help their children, 19-year-old Brooke and 17-year-old Nick, jumpstart their careers in music and acting. However, Nick Bollea is currently facing charges for reckless driving: he reportedly crashed his 1998 Toyota in a street race with a friend on August 26. His passenger, John Graziano, was critically injured.
