There’s a reason Liv Tyler has sported an empty ring finger lately: her Fellowship of the Ring is over. The actor’s rep confirmed on May 8 that she and her husband of five years, British rock star Royston Langdon, have split up.
“Liv Tyler and Royston Langdon have confirmed their separation,” spokesman Stephen Huvane said in a statement to People. “They remain good friends and devoted parents to their son Milo and are requesting that their family’s privacy be respected at this time.”
Rumors of trouble in the couple’s marriage intensified this week when Tyler, best known as Arwen in the highly popular Lord of the Rings film trilogy, was spotted without her wedding ring at New York City’s Met Costume Institute Gala on May 5, according to E! Online.
Tyler, 30, dated actor Joaquin Pheonix for three years before hooking up with the former Spacehog frontman. She and Langdon married in March 2003, in a private ceremony at a Barbados villa; their son Milo William is now three years old.
Liv Tyler’s involvement with rock singers is nothing new: she’s the daughter of Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, and she began her acting career in the 1993 Aerosmith music video “Crazy”. Aside from the Lord of the Rings series, Peter Jackson’s adaptation of the famed J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy novels, her film credits include Michael Bay’s Armageddon, the late Robert Altman’s Cookie’s Fortune, and Kevin Smith’s Jersey Girl. This year, she’ll star as Betty Ross in the new Incredible Hulk movie, a role sure to fan the flames of her already considerable geek-fandom.
Spacehog released their debut album in 1995 and broke up in 2002. Royston Langdon, now 36, formed the band The Tender Trio shortly afterward, but it only lasted about two years.
