New Toronto Canadian magazine to launch today!
For Immediate Release – March 18, 1996
Launched March 18, Divorce Magazine is designed to guide people through the complexities of separation and divorce. “To the best of our knowledge,” says Divorce publisher Dan Couvrette, “this is the first magazine of its type in Canada — perhaps the first anywhere. No other magazine caters to the needs of people facing the challenges of this difficult transition.”
The premier issue of this quarterly magazine is targeted at the Toronto market. In Toronto alone, approximately 25,000 people are expected to divorce in 1996. “Our mandate is to provide a unique, friendly resource of vital information and timely advice to help our readers survive — and even thrive — during their divorce,” says editor Diana Shepherd. “Experts in the areas of family law, real estate, relationships, and mental and physical health offer sound, practical advice our readers can use.”
Priced at just $2.95, Divorce is available on newsstands, through subscription (call 416-691-8441), and at non-traditional sources such as New Directions, and the offices of selected lawyers, doctors, therapists, and real-estate agents.
About the publishers
The idea for the magazine arose out of publisher Dan Couvrette‘s personal experience. During his own divorce, he realized there was a real need in the marketplace for Canadian divorce-related information, and this unique publication is the answer. No stranger to magazine publishing, Couvrette has more than two decades’ experience as publisher and associate publisher of award-winning national magazines.
Editor Diana Shepherd is also a publishing-industry veteran. Over the last decade, she has held positions such as Editor and Managing Editor at several award-winning magazines; most recently, she was Associate Editor of a leading Canadian bridal magazine. She has also published numerous lifestyle and travel articles, news pieces, and book reviews in diverse magazines — ranging from Quill & Quire to Toronto Life Fashion to Cottage Life.
About the cover
Talented Canadian artist Geoffrey Bonnycastle is responsible for the dramatic cover illustration — as well as most of the interior illustrations. Bonnycastle has been exhibiting in North American galleries since he was 17 years old; having gone through his own divorce, he was able to produce illustrations that were exactly right for this magazine.
