Available on Southern Californian newsstands on July 1, Divorce Magazine is designed to guide people through the complexities of separation and divorce. “To the best of our knowledge,” says DIVORCE publisher Dan Couvrette, “this is the first magazine of its type in California. No other magazine caters to the needs of people facing the challenges of this difficult transition.” The premier U.S. edition of Divorce Magazine was launched in Chicago in August 1996; other local editions include New York/New Jersey and Toronto, Canada.
In Los Angeles alone, approximately 96,000 people are expected to divorce in 1997. “Our mandate is to provide a unique, friendly resource of vital information and timely advice to help our readers survive — and even thrive — during their divorce,” says editor Diana Shepherd. “Local experts in the areas of family law, real estate, relationships, and mental and physical health offer sound, practical advice our readers can use.” Shepherd is excited about the association between Divorce Magazine and the highly successful L.A.-based newsletter SOLO: A Guide for the Single Parent. “Working with SOLO will really help us to serve the needs of divorcing parents better,” she says. “And with more than a million children affected by divorce every year, there’s an urgent need to help and educate parents.”
Topics in the first issue include: a guide to finding the right lawyer; how to figure out if your spouse is hiding assets from you; getting back into the dating game; helping the kids adjust to your divorce; an introduction to mediation; using this crisis as an opportunity to grow; and a humor column — because our readers could use a good laugh.
Priced at just $3.95, DIVORCE will be available on L.A.-area newsstands; through subscription; and at places like court offices; social service agencies; E.A.P. offices; clergy and family support groups; as well as the offices of selected lawyers, mediators, therapists, financial planners, and real-estate agents.
