Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his wife Dany have split after ten years of marriage and 17 years together as a couple. They have a five-year-old daughter together. Of course they didn’t identify a reason for the split; their press release to People magazine contained the typical and trite “We will remain best friends…blah, blah, blah…” celebrity break-up boilerplate.
The timing of the divorce seems suspiciously (to us former divorce attorneys) convenient. I suspect that the couple didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement since they met in college before Johnson was “The Rock.” And he had the good fortune to be cast as Agent 23 in the upcoming Steve Carell movie, Get Smart. No doubt the movie will be a huge hit when it is released next summer.
The big question is, will all of the Get Smart loot that is sure to roll in AFTER the couple’s separation (think DVD sales, pay-TV rights, computer downloads, merchandising, possible back-end deals, etc.) be HIS…or THEIRS? No doubt the question will keep the couple’s respective divorce lawyers very busy…
