Family law in Ontario has developed an effort to keep disputes outside of the court room, wherever possible. Going to court with your divorce should really be the last resort because it may be slow and expensive, as court cases get backed up and the work load of judges increases. Further, the court battles leave the decision making to a third party judge and often take the power away from you to make important decisions about your own lives and financial affairs. You have options aside from court proceedings.
