The Matrimonial and Family Law practice group at Blank Rome LLP
is dedicated to families and
the ethical resolution of all family law disputes.
The psychological and emotional impact of divorce can be extremely difficult, and it takes a special kind of lawyer to navigate his or her clients through such a turbulent time. The lawyers in the Family Law practice at Blank Rome LLP strive to achieve just resolutions for their clients, offering them positive support through what is typically a life-altering and troublesome experience.
The Family Law practice group at Blank Rome is a multifaceted team of highly trained professionals who represent a broad range of high-net-worth clients, including business executives, entrepreneurs, lawyers, physicians, accountants, homemakers, sports, entertainment, political and religious figures.
The attorney team at Blank Rome recognizes that each case has its unique set of problems and issues. As such, they give careful attention to each case, knowing that every individual's family, marital, and/or relationship problems require the utmost in
The firm handles complex marital disputes whether they involve dissolution (divorce) proceedings, paternity actions, spousal and child support matters, or domestic violence cases. The firm has a particular interest in finding equitable solutions where children are involved -- solutions that focus on what is best for the family.
Though formidable litigators, the attorneys are also skilled negotiators with a proven track record of resolving matters through mediation and other alternative dispute resolution techniques. The Family Law attorneys at Blank Rome often implement a dual strategy for their clients: one that focuses on trying to reach a reasonable settlement; the other, full preparation for a court trial.
Always at the forefront of family law, partner Stacy D. Phillips is credentialed in Collaborative Law, a relatively new area of alternative dispute resolution. Collaborative Law offers the opportunity to resolve family law disputes in a less adversarial atmosphere than typically inherent in litigation. This approach allows each party's needs and expectations to be better addressed than they might otherwise be in straight mediation or litigation proceedings. Collaborative Law is especially useful when it comes to maintaining the bonds in a blended family which are so critical for the benefit of the children.
Blank Rome's highly experienced partners, counsel, associates, paralegals and energetic team of experienced assistants bring a variety of skills and expertise to the table. As part of its service, the firm seeks to match each client to the most appropriate attorney. Each of the firm's attorneys goes to great lengths to choose the most practical and viable approach to handling every case.

At Blank Rome, Ms. Phillips represents a wide variety of high-profile and celebrity clients as they undergo the significant and often difficult changes involved in divorce and custody issues. After more than 30 years of practice, she continues to believe in a philosophy she often shares with her clients: “How we treat others, how we conduct ourselves and how we communicate during difficult times, can alter the course of one’s life.” As Ms. Phillips guides her clients through critical transitions in their lives, her focus remains on fostering the best interests of children and families.
In a career filled with extraordinary accolades and accomplishments for both her clients and herself, Ms. Phillips is most proud of her team’s work through their Adopt-A-Center Program. Founded by her former firm Phillips Lerner in 1999 as a way to both give back and support good works, each year the Adopt-A-Center program supports a deserving local nonprofit organization that helps children and families in Los Angeles. Ms. Phillips and her colleagues not only donate and raise money for these worthy organizations, but they also often participate as active volunteers.
Ms. Phillips assisted in the drafting of California’s Senate Bill 924, which extended the limitations period for victims of domestic violence to sue their abusers in civil court and testified in support of the legislation before the Assembly Judiciary Committee as a family law expert. The bill was enacted into law and is codified as California Code of Civil Procedure Section 340.15.

Kevin B. Martin, Partner
Kevin. B. Martin is a highly accomplished attorney who handles all aspects of family law matters. During his 17-year career, he has developed broad experience in many areas of the law, including commercial litigation, securities litigation, accounting fraud, and governmental/regulatory investigations, and brings these valuable perspectives to his family law cases.
Mr. Martin offers his clients a truly multifaceted outlook, especially those with proprietary business interests. Prior to joining Blank Rome, Mr. Martin co-founded Sonoma Risk Insurance Agency, LLC in Los Angeles, where he developed first-of-its-kind and
His clients also benefit from his experience as a civil litigator and as an enforcement attorney at the Securities Exchange Commission (“SEC”), where he investigated and prosecuted many different types of financial fraud. Pauline M. Martin, Of Counsel
With more than two decades of litigation experience, Ms. Martin handles all areas of family law, as well as a range of clients’ other legal needs, including general commercial litigation, employment and partnership disputes, and insurance coverage and contract litigation.
Ms. Martin’s commercial litigation experience, especially in partnership dissolution and employment-related matters, adds a unique perspective to her family law practice. In both civil and family law, agreements exist that affect the rights and obligations of the parties. Ms. Martin understands that important promises are made in relationships, whether by a spouse, an employer, or a joint venture partner. Through the course of the relationship, people can breach their duties or promises to each other. When they cannot reconcile or settle their differences peacefully and there is a formal desire to part ways, litigation becomes necessary. Whether in a civil or family dispute, the effects of litigation are equally serious and can have a negative effect on finances, businesses, and personal and professional reputations.
Prior to joining Blank Rome, Ms. Martin was the co-founder of Sonoma Risk Insurance Agency, LLC in Los Angeles, where she helped develop the patent-pending insurance product, “Contract Litigation Insurance” (“CLI”), which covers the risk of paying an adversary’s attorneys’ fees in a contract dispute. CLI was hailed by the legal community as a “game changer” in contract litigation.
