June 30, 2008: Uma, Arki. Arki, Uma.

Uma Thurman engaged to European financier Arpad Busson.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

It looks like Uma Thurman is set to play The Bride for the third time. But we don't mean another Kill Bill movie: we mean in real life. The actor has become engaged to Swiss-born businessman and philanthropist Arpad "Arki" Busson.

Her publicist, Stephen Huvane, confirmed the engagement with People.com on June 27. "I can confirm she is engaged," Huvane said. The New York Daily News reported on the same day that Busson had proposed to the erstwhile Beatrix Kiddo earlier that week in London; the couple had been at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration in the city. (Busson owns a $20 million (U.S.) mansion in Chelsea.)

Thurman -- who is also known for her role in another Quentin Tarantino cult classic, Pulp Fiction -- reportedly began dating Busson, 45, after they both attended a private dinner that Gianni Versace and Tony Blair hosted in Milan last year.

Thurman's previous two marriages, both of which ended in divorce, were to actors Gary Oldman and Ethan Hawke. She has two children with Hawke, Maya Ray (who'll turn ten on July 8) and Levon Roan, 6. The couple divorced in 2004, after which Thurman dated and briefly cohabited with New York hotelier Andre Balazs. Busson, meanwhile, has two sons from a previous relationship with supermodel Elle Macpherson (who had been friends with Thurman until the latter began seeing Busson). Busson and Macpherson had been engaged, but they broke up in 2005.

Uma Thurman, 38, has also starred in the acclaimed films Dangerous Liaisons, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Sweet and Lowdown. She won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the 2002 TV miniseries Hysterical Blindness.

Busson's specialty is hedge funds. He is the founder and chairman of EIM Group, a London-based fund-management company, and the founding trustee of Absolute Return for Kids (or ARK), which raises money for disadvantaged children.
