May 16, 2008: He no longer impresses her much

Shania Twain and Robert "Mutt" Lange to divorce after 14 years.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

Important news for single guys with big dreams: Shania Twain is available again. It turns out "You're Still the One" no longer applies to Robert "Mutt" Lange, as Twain and her husband have separated and plan to divorce.

The couple's representative, Jason Owen, confirmed the split-up to People on May 15. "Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage," Owen said. "This is a private matter, and there will be no further comment at this time." The following day, world entertainment news reported that the couple had filed for divorce.

The Canadian country-pop superstar, 42, met the legendary music mogul in 1993, and they married on December 28 of that year. Lange subsequently co-wrote many of Twain's songs with her and produced the singer's hit albums The Woman in Me (1995), Come on Over (1997), and Up! (2002). Come on Over is still the all-time top-selling album by a female musician as well as the best-selling country album.

Twain and Lange, 59, have one son, Eja D'Angelo, 6. They also own homes in Switzerland and New Zealand.

Shania Twain grew up in Timmins, Ontario and began her singing career in childhood, earning a spot on the CBC's The Tommy Hunter Show at age 13. She released her self-titled debut album in 1993.

This is Robert Lange's second divorce; he was previously married to singer Stevie Vann in the 1970s. He began working in music production in the mid-'70s and went on to produce highly successful albums for AC/DC, Foreigner, Def Leppard, and Bryan Adams before meeting Twain.
