December 15, 2009: Rapper Nas to Pay $51,000 Per Month New Support Amount Set According to the Associated Press, a Los Angles family court judge has ordered Nas to increase spousal and child support payments from $40,000 to $51,101 per month to his former wife, singer Kelis and their son, Knight. The increase comes due to an assessment of Nas' (nee Nasir Jones) income.
While Nas' attorney stated that he was pleased with the decision as Nas no longer has to pay $13,000 towards Kelis' California home, the court heard that Nas owes millions in back taxes and has a $700,000 bill with his manager. He does however have 2 albums slated for release in 2010. Kelis recently signed on for an album with Interscope but has stated that she has a difficult time finding work outside of the music industry. Her role as a new mother also plays a part in her financial shortcomings. Nas and Kelis were married in 2005 and Kelis filed for divorce in April. A reconciliation was attempted in September, however the couple was unsuccessful. Their son, Knight was born during their estrangement in July. More information on divorce and support payments: |
