November 12, 2007: Not so wild about Harry

Prince Harry's girlfriend reportedly calls off relationship.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

We all know the fairy tale about the frog that turned into a prince, but in real life, even princes are known occasionally to act like frogs. This may have been why Prince Harry's girlfriend has broken up with him, according to recent reports.

The News of the World reported on November 10 that Chelsy Davy, 22, ended their relationship of three years last week. The British tabloid quoted anonymous "friends" of Davy who claimed that she was fed up with the Prince's inability to commit as well as his drunken lifestyle of partying and womanizing. She supposedly broke off the romance after Harry skipped out on her birthday and went to the rugby union World Cup final instead.

There was no confirmation from Clarence House, where Harry lives with his father, Prince Charles, and his older brother, Prince William. Officials there said that they do not comment on the royal family's private lives, according to the Associated Press.

Zimbabwe-born Davy, an heiress to an African ranching and real-estate fortune, is currently studying law in Leeds, England.

Prince Harry, 23, is third in the line of succession to the thrones of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth; his mother is the late Princess Diana. However, Harry's public behavior has long courted controversy, especially as unbefitting a possible future king. For one, he caused a minor scandal in early 2005 by wearing a Nazi swastika armband to a costume party (though he later apologized for it in a public statement).

He is also a second lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment of the British army's Household Cavalry, after graduating from the Sandhurst Military Academy earlier this year. The army has refused to send him to Iraq out of concern that he would become a terrorist target, but he is reportedly demanding to go to Afghanistan.

Click here for a psychologist-mediator's advice on how to make a marriage (or any long-term relationship) work. Maybe Harry could use a few tips.
