April 29, 2011: The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
By Martha Chan

Prince William and Kate Middleton were pronounced "man and wife together" today by the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.

This much anticipated wedding took place at Westminster Abbey with 1900 guests in attendance. Among these guests were European Royals, 1000 friends of Kate and William, and a local butcher, postman and store manager from Kate's home village of Upper Bucklebury. During the wedding vow exchange, Prince Harry stood by Prince William, while Kate's father stood by her. The exchange of vows went without a mistake (despite the many bets placed with various odds against a perfect vow exchange).

Kate's wedding dress was one of the best kept secrets until today. Her ivory colored gown with lace and floral details is a gorgeous classic design that is bound to be copied by brides from around the world. Designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, this dress is reminiscent of a "Grace Kelly look".

After the ceremony, the newlyweds rode in the 1902 State Landau, a 5 horse-drawn carriage through the streets of London packed with well wishers. The couple and the royal family appeared in the famous balcony of the Buckingham Palace in front of an estimated crowd of 1 million. And yes, the newlyweds had their royal kiss in front of the crowd, not once, but three times.

The wedding day has gone flawlessly so far. The Queen who is 85 and Prince Phillips who is 89 will be hosting a brunch and Prince Charles will be hosting a formal dinner followed by a party to be thrown by Prince Harry.

This is the 16th royal wedding being held at the Westminster Abbey and is also the place where Princess Diana's funeral was held. Prince William has included his mother, Princess Diana in his wedding in many ways. It started with the engagement ring he gave Kate which was the same ring that his father Prince Charles gave his mother when they announced their engagement 30 years ago.

While Kate is not the first "commoner" to marry into the Royal Family, she is the first "commoner" to marry a prince who is second in line for the throne. The new couple is expected to give the royal family brand a fresh dimension of being down to earth.

No doubt this royal wedding was watched by billions around the world on TV. By the time the couple came out of the church, there were over 2.5 million tweets on twitter.com, countless videos are available online through websites and Youtube, with a lot more to come over the next few days and weeks. This show of British pageantry is expected to have injected new life into the monarchy.

Here at Divorce Magazine, we offer our best wishes to Kate and William.
