April 9, 2008: Parker's engagement goes to pot

Mary-Louise Parker breaks off her engagement to fellow Weeds actor.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

Emmy-winning actor Mary-Louise Parker, who's currently starring as dope-selling suburban mother Nancy Botwin in the Showtime dramedy Weeds, has ended her engagement to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, according to an Associated Press report.

An anonymous source told AP that the relationship broke up because of the couple's different lifestyles. However, the source added that Parker, 43, still respects Morgan and wants to remain friends with him.

There were no comments from Morgan's or Parker's representatives.

Morgan, 41, has played Nancy's late husband in two episodes of Weeds, which begins its fourth season in June. He and Parker started seeing each other romantically in December 2006, and three months later, Parker told People that the relationship was "going great". The couple broke up last June but reconciled shortly afterward, and they announced their intentions to get married on February 12.

This would have been Morgan's second marriage (his first ended in divorce) and Parker's first. Parker has a four-year-old son from a previous relationship with Almost Famous star Billy Crudup, which lasted from 1996 to 2003. This breakup ignited tabloid headlines, as Crudup left Parker when she was seven months pregnant and then began seeing Claire Danes.

Before landing the lead in Weeds, Parker won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her role in the HBO miniseries Angels in America in 2003. She also played Amy Gardner in The West Wing for five years. Her movie credits include The Spiderwick Chronicles, Bullets over Broadway and Fried Green Tomatoes.

Morgan is best known for his roles in the TV series Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural.

The best way to end a relationship is to maintain mutual respect and friendship with your ex -- as Mary-Louise Parker supposedly wants. For advice on how to take the conflict out of divorce (and maybe even save the marriage), click here.
