July 27, 2009: Something's Gotta Give

Country star LeAnn Rimes separates from husband.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

LeAnn Rimes may have sung about accepting relationship imperfections in "What I Cannot Change", but in real life, she's decided that bailing is the wiser choice.

The country singer-songwriter has split from her husband of seven years, dancer Dean Sheremet, a few months after reports surfaced of Rimes' alleged affair with TV actor Eddie Cibrian. Sources close to the estranged couple confirmed the breakup with MusicNews.com on Friday.

"LeAnn and Dean have been separated for quite some time now," one friend of the pair told the site, "but they're continuing to try and work through their relationship." Another insider told MusicNews.com: "They were so young when they got married; she was 19, he was 21. Maybe they just grew up and they weren't in the same place anymore."

The website also reported that Cibrian's wife, Brandi Glanville, had left him.

Both Rimes, 26, and Sheremet publicly acknowledged their separation over the weekend. On Saturday, Rimes performed in Utah's Deer Valley Music Festival and indirectly referenced the split in one of her song introductions.

"It is inevitable that sometimes in a relationship, you will have your heart broken," Rimes told the audience, as quoted in Us Weekly. "Sometimes you don't do anything, but sometimes you want revenge. Sometimes you don't, and that's when you just leave it in God's hands and know that He will take care of it."

As for Sheremet, he sent out a brief Twitter post: "Thanks to everyone for all the support through a very difficult time!"

Rimes and Sheremet met in May 2001 at the Academy of Country Music Awards and married the following year. She had previously had a three-year relationship with actor Andrew Keegan.

LeAnn Rimes began her singing career at the age of ten and became a star in 1996 with her first major-label album, Blue. Among her hit singles are "One-Way Ticket", "How Do I Live", "Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense", and "Probably Wouldn't Be This Way".
