Singer Katy Perry is engaged to British comic Russell Brand.

It's now clear which "One of the Boys" Katy Perry has her sights set on. British comedian and actor Russell Brand's publicists announced today that Brand and the singer are now engaged.

"We can confirm that Russell Brand and Katy Perry are engaged," the press statement from Brand's reps read. There was no wedding date specified.

And Brand himself reconfirmed the news with a text message to British newspaper The Sun. "It's true. Much love," he wrote.

Brand, 34, reportedly popped the question to Perry on Thursday, during a spiritual ceremony the couple was attending at the foot of a mountain in India. A "love guru" blessed their relationship, according to the Press Association.

"Russell wanted to do something special for Katy to show her how much she means to him," a source told BANG Showbiz. "They wanted to take part in a traditional ceremony and thought there was no better time than on New Year's Eve. The ceremony is usually used to bless new couples, in the hope it might lead them toward marriage."

Before meeting Perry, Brand was a notorious womanizer. Just before the pair left for their romantic holiday in India, he said that he had renounced his old ways. "Tonight, I turned off my famous, hedonistic hot-tub, a monumental event," he said, as quoted by BANG. "I did it for climate change. In every sense."

Perry and Brand met at last year's MTV Video Music Awards, in which Brand hosted and Perry performed. They were first reported to be dating in September. Perry previously had dated Travis McCoy, the lead singer of Gym Class Heroes.

Katy Perry, 25, began her career as a teenage gospel-rock singer under her birth name, Katy Hudson. Her hits include "I Kissed a Girl", "Hot N Cold", and "Waking Up in Vegas", all from her 2008 album One of the Boys.

Russell Brand's stand-up act has won awards from Time Out, Channel 4, and the British Comedy Awards. His film credits include Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Bedtime Stories; he will next appear in Julie Taymor's upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest.
