March 13, 2009: The Break-Up, or: He's just not that into you, Jen

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer split up, again.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

The saga of actor Jennifer Aniston's rocky love life has ended yet another chapter. The ex-wife of hunk extraordinaire Brad Pitt is on the market once again, as acclaimed blues-rock musician John Mayer has just broken up with her -- for the second time in a year.

E! Online speculated about a possible split on March 12, a few days after Aniston, 40, had returned from a trip across the pond to promote her recent movie Marley & Me. "He broke up with her when she got back from her European tour," an anonymous source told E!.

Later that day, People confirmed the split. "They had some disagreements and decided to not continue to see each other. Jen is moving on with her life, like she always does," People quoted another source as saying. "She seems happy."

But are Aniston and Mayer still Friends? That wasn't made clear, although E! suggested that the romance between the two may not be permanently over. According to reports, the couple first broke up last August but reunited three months later. They attended the Academy Awards in Los Angeles together on February 22 and were reportedly inseparable at the Vanity Fair after-party. Aniston told Gayle King at the time that she felt "very happy".

In a recent interview with You, however, Aniston revealed a less optimistic side regarding romance in general. "Whoever said that every relationship has to last forever? That's hoping too much. I think every relationship is a world unto itself," she told the British magazine. When asked about meeting the perfect mate, she answered: "I don't have one, and I don't think it exists."

After the couple's August breakup, Mayer had told People: "I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right."

Aniston's high-profile marriage to Brad Pitt lasted from July 2000 to October 2005, after which Pitt began his current relationship with Angelina Jolie. Since her divorce, Aniston also has been linked to actor Vince Vaughn and model Paul Sculfor. Mayer, meanwhile, has previously been involved with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, and Minka Kelly.

Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green on the phenomenally successful NBC sitcom Friends, during its entire run from 1994 to 2004. The role won her an Emmy. She received some critical acclaim for her performances in the films The Object of My Affection and The Good Girl; other movie roles have included Bruce Almighty, Along Came Polly, and the recent He's Just Not That into You.

John Mayer, 31, has won numerous Grammy, American Music, and MTV Video Music Awards over the last several years. His best-known songs include "Daughters", "Waiting on the World to Change", and "Say". He is currently working on his fifth studio album, Battle Studies.
