August 14, 2008: Wrestling in court

Hulk Hogan divorce focuses on condo sale, contempt motion.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

If you thought professional wrestling was full of antagonism, smacks, slams, and falls, wait until you get a load of wrestlers' divorces. Since it began in November, Hulk Hogan's divorce process has had enough drama and conflict to fill numerous matches.

Recently, the Hogans' 20-year-old daughter, Brooke, admitted that she'd made false allegations against her father, having signed an affidavit saying that he'd verbally and physically abused his wife. Brooke, a singer, said that she'd made the accusations under pressure from her mother, Linda Maria Bollea.

Now, the case is back in court in Clearwater, Florida, as the estranged couple sort out other issues. On August 8, Judge George Greer denied a motion from each of the spouses: Linda Bollea, 48, had asked for Hogan to be held in contempt at a July hearing, while Hogan (whose real name is Terry Bollea) was refused permission to withdraw from a previous order to close on a $4.2 million condominium in Las Vegas.

Hogan, who just turned 55, and Linda Bollea paid $840,000 toward the condo three years ago, and they were due to close on the property in the spring of this year. Linda Bollea wants to close on it, but Hogan has refused to do so. In July, Hogan's divorce attorney told the court that the property was not worth as much as Hogan had originally believed and would lose a lot of money for him. He revealed that the WWF wrestling legend and his wife had received two separate appraisals on the condo, of which Hogan's was $1 million less.

Hogan himself said on the stand on August 13 that the condo purchase was "the worst possible deal", according to ABC Action News on WFTS-TV, based in Tampa Bay.

The same day, Hogan told ABC Action News that the property was nothing more than "a pleasure palace" and that his money should instead go toward medical care for John Graziano. Graziano, a friend of the Hogan's teenage son Nick, was permanently injured in a car accident a year ago; Nick Bollea is currently serving an eight-month prison term for causing the accident.

The Hogans have been married for 24 years. They starred in a VH1 reality series called Hogan Knows Best for more than two years, before Linda Bollea filed for divorce.
