Hugh Hefner files for divorce, following wife's suit.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

It seems the divorce is mutual. Not that it really matters, considering the husband's notorious lifestyle of Bunnies and debauchery galore.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner filed for divorce from his estranged wife, Kimberley Conrad, on Wednesday, two weeks after Conrad herself filed papers. Hefner is citing irreconcilable differences.

"I am happy to be out of the marriage," Hefner, 83, told celebrity-gossip website TMZ on Wednesday. "I only remained married for the sake of the children, at her request. I am happy to have this behind me."

Hefner added that he had been "generous to a fault" to Conrad, a former Playmate of the Year, who filed a $5 million lawsuit against him last month regarding the sale of Mapleton, a house the couple co-owned.

Conrad, 47, and Hefner married in 1989 and separated in 1998. They have two teenage sons. This was the second marriage for Hefner.

According to reports, Hefner is offering $20,000 a month in spousal support to Conrad. He claims he as already given nearly $12 million to her since their separation.

Hugh Hefner founded Playboy magazine in 1953, with its launch issue featuring a now-iconic nude spread of Marilyn Monroe. His life is profiled in the upcoming Brigitte Berman documentary, Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel.
