Union of the drummer is no longer on the rise

Duran Duran drummer Roger Taylor and his wife have separated after 19 years of marriage. The pop star and make-up artist and stylist Giovanna Cantone Taylor decided in January that the move was "the most sensible thing" for them and their three children.

Duran Duran spokesman Gerard Franklin said they decided to announce the split to quash recent speculation they had divorced, and he stressed it would not necessarily be permanent. He said no one else was involved on either side.

"Both of them felt they needed some time and space on their own to reflect on the future and to work through their marriage," Franklin said. "Roger and Giovanna remain the best of friends as they work through this difficult period together."

The couple, who own two homes in London, have two sons, aged 16 and 12, and a nine-year-old daughter.

Duran Duran, who in February won a outstanding contribution award at the Brits, are due to start a month-long U.K. tour in Belfast, Northern Ireland next week.
