July 18, 2009: Money can't buy me love (though it probably helps) by Jeffrey Cottrill Socialite and heiress Ivanka Trump is following in her parents' footsteps in many ways. And now that she's engaged, is she going to emulate Ivana Trump's serial-marrying habit? The younger Trump, 27, announced her engagement to Jared Kushner, the owner of the New York Observer, on Twitter on Thursday. The proposal had occurred the previous day, according to reports. "I got engaged last night," Trump tweeted, adding that the proposal was "truly the happiest day of my life!!!"
"They make a magnificent couple," her father, New York real-estate mogul Donald Trump, told Us Weekly this week. The billionaire, who hosts the reality-TV series The Apprentice, added, "I'm very happy about it." Trump and Kushner began dating in 2007, though they briefly split up in 2008. She told Haaretz last October that she was converting to Judaism for Kushner's sake. Ivanka Trump was born to Donald Trump and his then-wife, former Divorce Magazine advice columnist Ivana Trump. She began a modeling career in 1997 and is now the Vice President of Real Estate Development and Acquisitions at her father's company. She has also made several appearances on The Apprentice. Jared Kushner, 28, bought the New York Observer in July 2006. Like Trump, he is the child of a real-estate tycoon, Charles Kushner.
