March 26, 2009: She won't get fooled again

CSI star Marg Helgenberger wants a divorce from Alan Rosenberg.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

TV star Marg Helgenberger doesn't want you to call her "Marge" -- and pretty soon, she won't want you to call her married, either. The 50-year-old actor, who plays forensic scientist Catherine Willows in the very popular crime series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, has filed a divorce petition with a Los Angeles court.

Helgenberger filed for divorce from fellow TV actor Alan Rosenberg on March 24, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple had separated in December. According to a TMZ.com report, Helgenberger is seeking spousal support from Rosenberg and has asked the court to deny any support to him.

"After 19 years of marriage," Helgenberger's publicist had told People shortly before the separation, "Marg and Alan have decided to take some time apart. They love and respect each other and remain committed to their family." Rosenberg and Helgenberger have an 18-year-old son, Hugh Howard.

Rosenberg, 58, and Helgenberger first met in 1984 on the set of the ABC soap opera Ryan's Hope, in which Helgenberger had a regular role and Rosenberg was a guest. They began cohabiting in 1988 and eloped in 1989. In addition to their acting careers, the couple hosted an annual Omaha benefit show to fight breast cancer, Marg and Alan's Celebrity Weekend.

This was Rosenberg's second marriage; his first was to actor Robin Bartlett. He also reportedly once dated Meryl Streep, in the early 1970s.

Alan Rosenberg is the current president of the Screen Actors Guild. He is best known for his role as divorce attorney Eli Levinson, in the critically acclaimed 1990s TV series Civil Wars and L.A. Law. Other TV shows in which he has had roles include ER, Chicago Hope, The Guardian, and CSI.

Marg Helgenberger won an Emmy Award in 1990 for her role in the war drama series China Beach, in which she appeared for three years. She has portrayed Catherine on CSI since 2000, receiving nominations for two Emmys and two Golden Globes for the role.
