August 20, 2008: Not ready for prime time?

Former SNL star Chris Kattan separates from wife of only eight weeks.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

Turns out Chris Kattan's marriage is far from a night at the Roxbury. Less than two months after the actor-comedian's wedding to 31-year-old model Sunshine Tutt, his representative announced that the couple has recently separated.

Jill Fritzo, the former Saturday Night Live comic's spokesperson, told Life & Style on August 19 that "They are separated for the moment but are working on it" and that they have "no plans for divorce at this time." She did not give a reason for the separation, adding, "There is not a third party involved."

Kattan and Tutt met at a birthday party in 2005. The comedian proposed to her on Christmas Eve of 2006 at her grandparents' home in Gainesville, Texas. They married on June 28 in California's Yosemite Valley, in a ceremony attended by Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and other Saturday Night Live alumni and stars.

Shortly after he began dating Tutt in 2005, Kattan wrote about her on his blog, according to the New York Daily News. He wrote that she was "so kind, sweet, and very beautiful. She's also very funny, which always is a great thing. She's also very much like me."

Chris Kattan, 37, began his career with the Los Angeles comedy troupe The Groundlings, of which his father was an original member. He joined the SNL cast in 1995 and created such characters as Gay Hitler, Mr. Peepers, and dance-clubbing loser Doug Butabi. Kattan brought the last character to the big screen in the 1998 movie A Night at the Roxbury, which also starred Ferrell and Molly Shannon.

Since leaving Saturday Night Live in 2003, Kattan has appeared in several movies and on Broadway; he also provided the voice of Walter Melon in the animated comedy Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.
