March 30, 2009: Divorce, and all that Jazz

Basketball all-star Carlos Boozer files for divorce.

by Jeffrey Cottrill

Pro basketball player Carlos Boozer has accomplished a lot in only six years with the NBA -- both with the Utah Jazz and in two Olympic Games stints -- but his luck this season hasn't been as hot. First, he's been sitting out much of this year due to a quad injury, with Paul Milsap replacing him in the lineup. And now, the six-foot-nine forward's marriage is coming apart too.

Boozer, 27, filed for divorce from his wife, Cindy (also known as Cece), with a Miami court on March 26. The papers refer to their union as "irretrievably broken", according to the Associated Press. However, Cindy Boozer's divorce lawyer told AP in an e-mail that she hopes that they can resolve all of their divorce issues in an amicable way.

The Jazz star is seeking shared child custody and has agreed to pay child support if necessary. The couple has three children, a two-year-old as well as 19-month-old twins. In addition, Boozer wants rights to their home in Salt Lake City, where the family has been living during basketball season. (The couple's other family home in Miami is reportedly up for sale.)

The Boozers have been married for six years.

Carlos Boozer was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2002; he played with them for two seasons and then signed with the Utah Jazz. He made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2003 and is a two-time NBA All-Star; with Team USA, he has also won Olympic Bronze and Gold Medals.
