Bristol Palin, 19, who some rather vocal voters hope will live in the White House with her President mother in 2012, has -- literally -- a more pressing engagement now that camera-happy (and previously vanquished) boyfriend Levi Johnston, 20, has popped the question.

Johnston, striving to win romantic or cheeseball of the year (depending on which group you talk to), proposed to Palin by placing petals on her bed in the shape of a heart, and followed that with a conventional trip down to one knee. The gesture had an immediate impact.   

"There was no hesitation at all," Palin told US Magazine, as she reflected on the moment.  

However, it's unclear where the other Palin -- Sarah -- has signed-off on the idea. 

It's rumored, however, that Johnston's recent admission of fictionalizing a good chunk of his tabloidesque exposé of "Life with the Palin Clan" was an attempt to mend fences with his future mother-in-law.  

Johnston and Palin have an 18-month old son, Tripp, who was the subject of custody discussions between the two parents only three months ago. 

"I wasn't there for Tripp and Bristol. Now I am and it feels great," Johnston said in the aftermath of his proposal. "…I'm here now and I'm going to make it right."
