While Barry Bonds caught thousands of fly balls while tending left field, baseball’s mercurial home run king can’t catch a break when it comes to matters closer to the other kind of home plate: his second marriage is headed for divorce.

In a divorce claim filed in court, Bonds’ wife Liz Watson has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the break-up of the 12-year marriage.

The couple have already reached a financial settlement, which should make the divorce process less contentious and adversarial. Watson is also seeking joint custody of the couple’s 11-year old daughter.  

For Bonds, this is his second marriage. His first, in 1994, also ended in divorce.
