When divorce is the Best choice

George and Alex Best are to start divorce proceedings next week, it was confirmed on April 12. The 57-year-old U.K. soccer legend's marriage is listed for a hearing at the London Divorce Court.

It is not known if the couple are blaming adultery or unreasonable behavior for the breakup. Best's friend and agent Phil Hughes said, "They have a hearing coming up on Wednesday [April 14]. It's not a quickie divorce. It's the beginning of the proceedings."

He added, "George is doing well at the moment, but he is still fighting the booze -- it's his demon." The couple's nine-year marriage suffered when George hit the booze after a liver transplant.

Alex, 32, star of I'm A Celebrity -- Get Me Out of Here!, recently confirmed they were divorcing. She said, "It's sad it's come to this. I never married George to be Mrs. George Best -- I married him because I loved him.
