March 23, 2007: Bollywood transfixed during country's "wedding of the century"

In a scene straight out of one of its own Bollywood films, India's superstar couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, married last Friday in a traditional Hindu wedding. According to news reports, the ceremonies lasted for three days with festivities taking place at the actors' family homes in the capital city of Mumbai. Fans who lined the road leading to the marriage site, hoping to witness a fleeting moment from what Indian media called "the wedding of the century," weren't disappointed. While the bride remained in seclusion, the groom emerged prior to the service atop a white stallion, resplendent in a long white Indian tunic, gold- and cream-colored, jewel-encrusted turban, and traditional "veil" of white flowers. The 33-year-old Rai is a former Miss World while Bachchan, 31, is son of Amitabh Bachchan, India's most famous actor.
