Title: first lawyer appt
Well my first Lawyers appointment is this friday. I am a little nervous. I have collected as much paperwork on our finances as I could problem is he keeps his info at this work. I have notice he is racking up the credit owed what a mess. After 23 years married I am goiing to have to start from scratch. Just to pay the Liabilities I have to assume and I am not upset that I have to take on the debt but am upset I will have to cash out my RRSPs to do so. I scrapped together the money to pay lawyer not easy thing to do. I hope this lawyer understands when I tell him I dont want to fight just want a fair separation agreement. I cant afford a battle. Dont want one either. I hate this whole process and wish my husband would try counciling to save our relationship but is not willing. I am tired of crying and still have not told anyone what is going on. My parents are going to be so disappointed...why does life have to be so difficult. Oh and why is it so hard to find a support group in your area??? Keep you posted here in ONtario

Divorce and modifications are their biggest money makers, they will drag it out untill the money is gone and then so are you.

I have to say my experiance with the Lawyer did not leave me feeling good about anything. I went home and talked to my Husband and said we had to come to an agreement as I was not going to waste money we dont have on going to court. The Lawyer said "well it looks to me that you really dont have alot of asset so it looks like it will be about SS". Well I am not going to SPEND $10000.00 plus to get my husband to agree to an amount by going to court. We may both be in pain right now however we are not stupid either. So I hashed out and agreement with husband on both CS and SS and sent my Lawyer an email outlining what I wanted written in the agreement. I am sure he will not like it but there is nothing he can do if I tell him to write it up. Isnt that right? I hate lawyers...and the cost is crazy. Even the cost of the office staff is crazy.

I'm here in Ontario too. I will watch for posts from you. Don't cash out any of your RRSPs yet. All assets will be split and you might not have to.
