October 18, 2011. Texas Divorce Rates on a downward spiral

By April Lopez

The concept of divorce has existed for a long time, but it only became a relatively common practice within the last 50 years. Until the latter half of the twentieth century, divorce was often considered to be disgraceful and was only performed under extreme circumstances.

US Divorce Statistics by State

In the state of Texas, 1970 was the first year when a reliable reporting about the number of divorces was made.

The trend followed by the divorce rate in Texas is similar to the trend of the divorce numbers. The divorce rate climbed from 1973 to 1981, dropped from 1981 to 1989, increased again till 1992 and further followed a downward path.

According to the 2009 data collected by the US Census Bureau, divorce rate for men is 10 and 11.9 for women, based on national, regional, and state divorce rates per 1,000 men and women aged 15 and over.

Texas divorces can happen for several reasons. Some people get married when they are very young – before they have learned whether they are compatible in the long term. Others discover that they have serious financial conflicts with their spouse. This is one of the most common reasons for divorce. If one spouse is trying to save money and live frugally while the other spends almost every dollar he or she earns, the couple is likely to have financial disagreements that threaten their marriage and long term happiness together.

While some of your family members or friends may try to guilt you out of getting a divorce, the truth is that many people divorce each year for one reason or another.
