Should I try a do-it-yourself divorce?

More people now are trying to do a 'do-it-yourself' divorce. Why is it imperative that someone hire a lawyer rather than doing it themselves?

Doing it yourself just leads you into so many errors and costs and expenditures that just aren't warranted. I mean, I have a case right now where the husband has been representing himself and there have been seven appeals that he has filed to the Appellate Court. The amount of money that it has cost in this case is way beyond anything compared to the total value of the case. It's just, in most cases the person doing it themselves just doesn't understand what's involved. They should hire an attorney and save themselves money in the long run.
