What can families expect from the adoption process?

Requirements differ depending on the type of process. Second-parent adoptions are generally simpler with fewer requirements. Be prepared for some or all of the following: first, criminal and child abuse background checks; second, disclosure of financial, medical, and employment information; third, personal references; fourth, home studies and home visits.
