Reflecting on 15 Years of Divorce Magazine
A Message from the Owners of Divorce Magazine
By Dan Couvrette and Martha Chan

When www.DivorceMagazine.com and Divorce Magazine launched 15 years ago, it was an initiative fused with enthusiasm and purpose.

And while we received widespread support in the media, we also met with some scepticism. Back then, a magazine dedicated to informing people about divorce was out of the ordinary, to say the least! Yet here we are 15 years later, and Divorce Magazine has thrived and become an established resource for the media, divorce professionals and millions of readers and online visitors.

Many of you may know that the idea of a Divorce Magazine emerged during Dan's divorce 17 years ago. To his surprise and frustration, he discovered that there was little -- if any -- information on the subject of divorce. There were no books, no magazines and the Internet was still in its infancy. That's when it hit Dan that he could use his two decades years of publishing experience to produce a magazine that would educate and empower people to have a civilized, compassionate and peaceful divorce AND to live a fulfilling life by design.

Winter/Spring 2011 Issue Shares Personal Divorce Stories from Readers

From the very beginning, we knew that divorcing couples needed authoritative information to help them deal with a wide range of issues, including legal, financial, children and emotional. We also knew that our content had to come from divorce professionals such as family lawyers, financial experts, therapists, and so on. And of course, because Martha is a stepmom, we've always been keenly aware of the need to publish quality content on how to have a successful blended family and second marriage.

Over the last 15 years, we've promoted the use of mediation and collaborative divorce as alternatives to litigation, and excerpted from countless books on the topic of how to have a good divorce. Plus, in light of the surge in community support, we've launched a discussion forum, Facebook page, Twitter account and a separate blog site.

It has been a privilege for us to be able to publish Divorce Magazine and we would like to thank all those who have supported us. We feel a tremendous sense of gratitude to all of our readers, our website visitors, the media, our advertisers, the family lawyers and other divorce professionals who, along with us, champion the cause of civilized divorce. And we'd like to send a special thank you to the team here at Divorce Magazine, our family, friends and everyone else who has helped make the last 15 years very special.

We can say in all humility that while divorce has its deep, dark tunnels, it also presents a unique opportunity to start anew. We all have control over whether we take the high road or the low road. It's really up to each one of us. And if you ever find yourself in a position to support someone before, during or after their divorce, we hope you will find it as rewarding as we have to make a positive difference.

About the Feature Story

The feature story of this 15th anniversary issue of Divorce Magazine is "Your Divorce Art & Divorce Story." The content comes from art and stories, which have been graciously submitted by our readers and blog visitors. We asked for these submissions because we are artists, and we appreciate the therapeutic value of art. Interestingly, Dan never painted prior to his divorce. After his divorce, he attended a few personal development courses to hopefully learn some new things about himself, and it occurred to him that he would like to paint. Soon after he started painting, he was amazed at how cathartic the experience was. He was also surprised by how his art touched people and communicated with people on a very intimate level. Enjoy the divorce art and divorce stories in this issue. We hope that you find them as inspiring, helpful and healing on your journey through and beyond divorce.
