After making its first Canadian appearance recently in Halifax , it’s now making its Italian debut in Milan. 

No, we aren’t talking about Justin Bieber or the H1N1 disease. We’re talking about a divorce fair!

Heralded by the London Telegraph as “the first [event] of its kind in the Catholic country,” Milan’s divorce fair on May 8-9 offered attendees everything they needed to know about divorce planning and more, including ideas on how to throw a post-divorce party, tips on dealing with a stalking ex-spouse, support for transition from a couple to a single, and of course, match makers were on the scene as well.

And the fair catered to more than those already facing divorce. It also offered advice on hiring a private investigator, for those who want to know if they’re headed towards their next anniversary…or to divorce court. 

Of course, all levity aside (such as offering divorce gift registry services), the fair is all business according to the its organizer Franco Zanetti. “[It’s] serious, practical advice for often dramatic situations," he noted. 

Like much of the rest of the planet, divorce rates in Italy have risen significantly in recent years – even beneath the disapproving shadow of the country’s strong Catholic anti-divorce auspices. For instance, according to Italy’s statistics agency, 130,000 couples separated or divorced in 2007; a dramatic climb from 30,000 in 1971.
