England – In Lincolnshire, many couples are forced to continue staying together long after their union has gone cold because they can't afford to divorce.

This is according to a website which says recession, unemployment and property sales slump has led to this situation.

The same website used by people seeking extra-marital affairs and illicit encounters.

According to the website, 42 percent of Lincolnshire couples were discouraged by the cost of divorce while 38 percent felt the stress of relocating in the current climate affected their decision to stay married.

The website claims that average legal fees are estimated at around £13,000 but can increase more in difficult cases.

'Anna' who lives in Spalding was persuaded by the dating website to speak to the Lincolnshire Free Press.

She explains that she and her husband have been living separate lives in the same house for the last eight months. They have been married for seven years with no children. Her husband told her a divorce will cost them £10,000.

She adds that although their house is worth about £150,000, it's not going to buy two houses.

They have talked about divorce and they both want it but it's just impossible to get one at the moment.

Anna also explains why they are still able to live amicably despite the situation. It is because they are sleeping in separate bedrooms and they do not spend time together in the house.

Right now they are just civil about everything although this wasn't the case initially.

Anna and her husband have been saving money so they can get a divorce and hopefully it will happen next year.

Anna just finds herself in a bizarre situation. She says, "You save up for a wedding, not for a divorce."

Rosie Freeman-Jones, the website spokesman says, many of their members would like to get a divorce but they just don't have the funds to do so.

She adds, the recession has forced couples to stay in marriages they would rather get out of that's why the website has seen a dramatic rise in Lincolnshire membership over the last year.
