The most dangerous food
A famous dietitian was addressing an International conference on diet and wellness in Washington, DC. Talking about our unhealthy eating habits, he said: "For most people, the food and drink they consume is just a slow way of committing suicide. We have all heard of the dangers of red meat, but even fruits and vegetables are loaded with toxic pesticides. And our drinking water is, in many cases, literally poisonous -- just look at the recent outbreaks of e-coli."
He went on in that vein for some time, building up in intensity and fervor. At the climax of his speech he said: "There is one food that is incredibly dangerous, and no one in their right minds should ever even consider eating it. This food will cause pain, grief, and suffering for years after a person consumes it, yet many people continue to eat it." He then asked the audience: "Can anyone tell me what this dangerous food is?"
An elderly man raised his hand to indicate that he knew the answer. He stood up, smiled bitterly, and said: "Wedding cake."
