What are the grounds for divorce in Virginia?

A divorce may be granted in Virginia divorce law using either "Fault" or "No-Fault" grounds.

Fault grounds include:
(1) adultery;
(2) abandonment;
(3) conviction of a felony and imprisonment for one year;
(4) cruelty;
(5) willful desertion.

No-Fault grounds include:
(1) living separate and apart without cohabitation for one year;
(2) living separate and apart without cohabitation for six months if there are no minor children and the spouses have entered into a separation agreement.

Of these, the "No-Fault" grounds are the most straightforward and easiest to prove.
