Divorce can extract a tremendous emotional and financial toll. You need the right Toronto divorce lawyer, with the right resources, and the right experience. Stakes are high in every divorce. You want to protect your children and limit the financial impact on your family.

You can be confident in our experience:

It's important to know, when choosing a divorce lawyer, that the vast majority of complex cases are handled by less than 10% of the lawyers in the Greater Toronto Area. The partners of MacDonald & Partners are seasoned family law practitioners, speakers, and authors of books and articles in the field of family law. Firm founder and counsel, James MacDonald, has practiced law for 42 years and originated family law as a specialized practice area. He is also the founder and first president of the Toronto Collaborative Law group (now Collaborative Practice Toronto). Together with the four partners – Gary Joseph, Phyllis Brodkin, William Abbott, and Georgina Carson – Jim MacDonald continues to take an active role in the development of family law in Canada.

We will put our resources to work for you to reach the right divorce resolution:

With its staff of more than 25 professionals, MacDonald & Partners is able to pay proper attention to detail. It's a seamless approach: junior associates handle the day-to-day communication while law clerks and associates ably assist the senior partners. The firm employs a full-time research lawyer, so divorce lawyers can research complex legal issues in-house and on a timely basis; a social worker is also on contract to assist clients if necessary. The overall approach at MacDonald & Partners is to resolve cases without litigation, but to litigate forcefully and effectively when necessary, says Gary Stuart Joseph, partner and firm chair of MacDonald & Partners. "We settle 98% of our cases, but our clients know that we are prepared, trained, and resourced to handle high conflict cases."

Taking care of yourself – and your family:

Divorce should not be financially or emotionally devastating, says Joseph. For the Toronto divorce lawyers at MacDonald & Partners, a successful divorce -- where each party is satisfied with the outcome, conflict is minimized, and parents are committed to a healthy co-parenting plan with an absence of dispute -- is always within reach.

We are here to serve you:

The firm’s location in the downtown Bay/Adelaide area services clients who work in Toronto’s business sector. It also provides access to expert collaterals when necessary, such as forensic accountants. The firm’s North York office is convenient for clients who live and work north of Toronto.
