"How can you learn about divorce mediation?"

If you're interested in mediation to resolve the issues of your divorce, it's very important that you do some research.

One of the things that I suggest is to go to Divorce Magazine or DivorceMagazine.com, and you can look for the mediators that they have there and see what kinds of backgrounds they have. You want someone who has a very good background, who has a lot of experience, and who has a lot of attributes that are really important. You also want to get your spouse to want to do this as well. Now, if you suggest it, it might not be accepted. So once you have the names of a couple of mediators that you'd like to interview, it's a good idea to call the office and set up an appointment.

Many mediation offices give a free consultation for about fifteen minutes to both parties, offer a phone conference with both husband and wife, explain the process, and also answer all of their questions so that they feel comfortable. I think it's very important that you feel comfortable with that mediator before you even walk in the door. This is a big step you're taking in your life, and it should be a step that you feel good about. So it's important that you do your homework, talk to the mediator, find out if there's a good match, and if there is, go in with your heart open and with lots of education and be ready to learn and to work it out in a very civil and peaceful manner, and you'll do well.
