California Divorce FAQ, Parental Alienation Syndrome

"What happens if the parent doesn't succeed in rescuing their children from an obsessed alienator?" These are the most painful, heart-wrenchingly difficult cases in family-law court. Without a judicial order to contain the offending parent, the parent who is healthy is likely to lose those children. The children will lose the effect and impact of that parent, the children's family and friends, and the whole culture that that parent could offer.
Many of these children grow up to be psychiatrically disturbed, to have maladaptive social relationships, and to pass the problem on to their own children -- not to mention the grief and agony of the parent who has lost that child.
